I recently came up with a list of goals, short, medium, and long-term. A lot of these goals overlap in terms of personal and professional, but I was hoping to post them somewhere so I could keep track of them. I'm not going to lie; part of the reason for putting them out here on a blog publicly is also to keep me accountable. Without further ado, here they are:
Short-term goals (starting now/constant)
- Come up with a game design a week (500 words)
- Blog once a week (500 words)
- Play piano once a week (30 minutes)
- Play violin once a week (30 minutes)
- Play guitar once a week (30 minutes)
- Bake/make a new dish once a week
- Bike to work at least three times a week
- Read at least one nonfiction and one fiction book a month.
- Watch/listen to French newscasts (with the intent of picking up French again)
Medium term goals (6 months-2 years)- Learn to code in C++
- Become fluent at reading music for guitar
- Bike to work everyday
- Learn how to use Maya
Long term goals (2 years - 5 years) - Self-publish a game
- Open a restaurant/coffee shop
- Start a clothing store
- Pay off all my student loans
- Convert everything I own to digital media
- Become fluent in French
A lot of these goals are pretty out there, some less tangible than others, but I figured I'd put them "on paper" and actually start tracking them, with today, June 22, 2009 as the starting point. The longer terms goals aren't going to just start 6 months or 3 years from now - I'll be creating more tangible steps for how I'll be able to actually accomplish these goals. Crazy? Probably, but I might as well try. Most people come up with New Year's Resolutions in January, but June's as good a time as any. And screw making resolutions for just one year- I got five covered.
